This specialised seminar oriented to the restoration of riparian ecosystems and bioengineering, which is addressed to the residual alluvial forests, object of the LIFE Alnus Taejo project, is aimed at students of engineering, biology, ecology and related areas, and also professionals of the sector and technicians of institutions related to environment, and will take place on 15 and 16 January 2025 at the Colégio do Espírito-Santo of the University of Évora.
The objectives of this seminar are:
- To show the technical advances of the European LIFE Alnus Taejo project on the restoration of alder forests and riparian ecosystems at the river basins scale, in particular addressing the potential of natural engineering techniques
- Sharing experiences
- To promote networking with LIFE projects and other European projects
A tribute will also be dedicated to Prof. João Paulo Almeida Fernandes, who was Professor at the Department of Landscape, Environment and Planning of School of Sciences of the University of Évora, first president and founding member of the Portuguese Association of Natural Engineering APENA, and member and collaborator since its origins of the European Federation of Soil Bioengineering EFIB. His work, with his great knowledge and scientific rigour, contributed to the consolidation and dissemination of Bioengineering in Southern Europe, with emphasis on the botanical aspect.
